چکیده

A sedimentological and palynological investigation was carried out on outcropping sedimentary rocks at Dogiyai, Papua, proposed to be named as the Mapia Formation. The age range is from Middle Miocene Pleistocene. lower Formation deposited Metroxylon type Nothofagus emarcida Zone, Early Pliocene. It comprised of three facies associations: tidal channel, point bar, flat deposits. tidally dominated fluvially influenced depositional environment suggested for deposition sediments this unit. upper Malvacipollis diversus Garcinia cuspidata Proteacidites sp. Late Pliocene five delta front, slump, debrite, turbidite, lacustrine mud non-channelized deep-lacustrine slump debris-flow synorogenic clastic beginning Central Range orogeny event while in piggyback basin major uplift event.

The Response of Fluvial Systems to Large Flood Events

In the summer of 2001, an intense thunderstorm in southeastern Caspian Sea triggered a catastrophic flood in the Madarsoo basin . Use of methods including high-resolution aerial photographs and satellite images interpretation, multi-date mapping, hydraulic calculations and field observations made possible the documentation of the geomorphic impacts on the Madarsoo River and its tributaries. Geo...

Palynology of the Bryn Mawr Formation (Miocene): insights on the age and genesis of Middle Atlantic margin fluvial deposits

The ages of fluvial deposits at the head of Chesapeake Bay, thought to be the updip, chronostratigraphic equivalents of a well-dated late Oligocene to Quatemary marine sequence in the Salisbury Embayment, are poorly known. We present data regarding a new occurrence of a palynoflora recovered from the Bryn Mawr Formation in Cecil County, Maryland. The floral assemblage for the Bryn Mawr Formatio...

Synthetic Stratigraphy with a Stochastic Diffusion Model of Fluvial Sedimentation

Models of stratigraphic completeness and bed formation in fluvial depositional environments have most often assumed that successive depositional and erosional events deposit or erode amounts of sediment independently. This results in a random-walk model for the total amount of deposited sediment locally as a function of time. We consider an extension of the random-walk model of sedimentation in...

Field migration rates of tidal meanders recapitulate fluvial morphodynamics

The majority of tidal channels display marked meandering features. Despite their importance in oil-reservoir formation and tidal landscape morphology, questions remain on whether tidal-meander dynamics could be understood in terms of fluvial processes and theory. Key differences suggest otherwise, like the periodic reversal of landscape-forming tidal flows and the widely accepted empirical noti...

Fluvial sediment flux to the Arctic Ocean

The paper presents an overview of recent publications on the fluvial suspended sediment flux to the Arctic Ocean. The total suspended matter exported from the Russian territory is 102×10 t/year and from the Canadian Arctic is 125×10 t/year. The total suspended matter (TSM) flux to the Arctic (227×10 t/year) is very low, only about 1% of the global flux. Mean concentrations of suspended matter a...
